Welcome to the Office of AIDS (OA). OA is a division within the California Department of Public Health, Center for Infectious Diseases.

OA works collaboratively with state and federal agencies, local health jurisdictions, universities, and community-based organizations to ensure that efforts to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic are targeted and effective.

Get PrEP and PEP at the Pharmacy

Did you know Californians can now access Pre-Exposure ​Prophylaxis (PrEP) or Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) at some pharmacies without needing to visit a doctor? ​In 2019, the California Legislature passed Senate Bill 159, which allows pharmacists to initiate and dispense PrEP and PEP to an HIV negative person without a prescription. Use the Board of Pharmacy Health Services Provided by Pharmacists search tool to find a pharmacy near you that provides PrEP or PEP without a doctor’s prescription.

The Health Consumer Alliance is an independent consumer assistance program which helps individuals and families get the health care services they need, and provides free legal services to all consumers, in all languages, regardless of income level. ​​​​

Ask It:

Note: If your question is not directed to a specific Branch, your question will be triaged to the most appropriate Branch team to be answered.

By clicking on “fix it” you’ll be able to report any items on this webpage or in the Office of AIDS that need to be fixed or corrected. While the resolution time will depend on the issue, in general, this channel is suitable for small problems that require prompt attention.

By clicking on “suggest it” you’ll have the ability to provide feedback or ideas to help improve the Office of AIDS to positively affect the way we work together with stakeholders in providing services to Californians. Please note that every idea - no matter how big or small - will be reviewed. Individuals are encouraged to contribute suggestions often, and while every idea will be considered, it is important to know that it may not be possible to implement every suggestion.
