Who we are
The California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH’s) Regional Public Health Office (RPHO) was established in March 2023. Our mission is to strengthen public health capacity across all regions by fostering trusting and collaborative state and local partnerships.
- We work closely with local health jurisdiction (LHJ) leaders to address complex public health challenges, pool resources, share knowledge, and promote communication and coordination.
- We offer technical assistance to rural and under-resourced LHJs in support of regional goals, priorities, and projects, particularly in the areas of epidemiology and communication strategies.
- We also oversee the local allocation of the Future of Public Health funds and the California Strengthening Public Health Initiative.

Functions
We are committed to enhancing public health across California A dedicated team made up of regional program coordinators, epidemiologists, communication specialists, and program specialists works closely with an assigned public health region to ensure seamless coordination, effective communication, science and data analysis, and funding support. Our goal is to strengthen the well-being of every community.
Promoting collaboration and innovation in regional public health, we drive discussions, develop projects, and coordinate activities to elevate local priorities.
Science & Data
Delivering expertise in epidemiology and data analytics, we collaborate with CDPH programs to enhance LHJ and regional projects, data quality, and surveillance.
We support regions and LHJs in the coordination and creation of regional communication efforts. We also connect LHJs to resources from CDPH’s Office of communications and various programs.
We provide technical assistance in managing the application process for funding and grants we oversee, tailoring our operations to meet the needs of our valued partners and stakeholders.

The Regional Public Health Office map was created in collaboration with health officials from various areas in California during the COVID-19 response. Additionally, we carefully considered and incorporated valuable feedback from local health partners.
